How is health political? This course looks to past and contemporary social movements that have mobilized health in order to build just futures. With an emphasis on gender, sexuality, race, and (dis)ability, this course covers topics including California farmworker organizing for environmental justice, women of color and queer women’s activism around reproductive health and bodily autonomy, the efforts of New York’s ACT UP to sustain care amid the devastation of the AIDS epidemic, and the collective work of diverse activists to resist and reimagine the American healthcare system.
