In our first episode of 2026, Dr. Kate sits down with Filipino-American journalist, cultural critic, poet, & GWS alum, Rodlyn-mae Banting. Rodlyn-mae is currently pursuing a PhD at the University of Oregon in the Indigenous, Race, and Ethnic Studies Department, exploring the affective afterlives of American Occupation in the Philippines with a focus on white women and white femininity as they appear in contemporary Filipino culture. During this conversation, Dr. Kate and Rodlyn-mae discuss their time teaching together, the challenges of AI in the modern classroom, Rodlyn-mae’s critical research as they begin this new chapter of research, learning, and teaching.
