Graduate Programs

Aimed at students enrolled in Master’s and professional degree programs, the Graduate Certificate in Gender & Women’s Studies provides students with critical expertise that they can apply in a variety of fields. The requirement of a foundational course offers grounding in the major concepts, theories and research approaches related to the study of gender and sexuality. This foundation provides students with the necessary theoretical tools to analyze gender and its relationship with other socially meaningful categories such as class, race, ethnicity, disability, and sexuality in a variety of contexts. Two additional courses allow students to deepen their empirical knowledge of women and/or gender and/or sexuality studies in a specific area or areas. Students can tailor their study to areas related to their future career or research ambitions.

The certificate in gender and women’s studies at the graduate level may be earned by students enrolled in a graduate program at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. The Graduate Program Manager serves as the advisor. Interested students should meet with the Graduate Program Manager early in the process to plan courses.
