GWS Student Spotlight – Anna Landry

Anna Landry is majoring in Gender & Women’s Studies and and getting certificates in Disability Rights & Services and Social Justice Education.
- Why did you choose GWS?
I chose to pursue my bachelor’s degree in Gender and Women’s studies because I want to understand the ways that gender and queerness influence the education system. As a future special education teacher, I wanted to be able to understand the ways that bias affects my students and build a foundation to teach my students in the most inclusive environment possible! - Has GWS changed your approach to your involvement (on or off campus) during college? If so, how?
Oh absolutely! I incorporate the language and ideas that we talk about in my classes into my daily life. As a preschool teacher I see first-hand some of the ways that societal norms affect education, and I work to teach my students to be kind and inclusive. - How has GWS shaped your future plans?
I find myself becoming more passionate about being an inclusive teacher as I spend more time learning about the societal norms and representations that influence the lives of children and young people.
