GWS Student Spotlight – Anna Landry

Anna Landry is majoring in Gender & Women’s Studies and and getting certificates in Disability Rights & Services and Social Justice Education.

  1. Why did you choose GWS?
I chose to pursue my bachelor’s degree in Gender and Women’s studies because I want to understand the ways that gender and queerness influence the education system. As a future special education teacher, I wanted to be able to understand the ways that bias affects my students and build a foundation to teach my students in the most inclusive environment possible!
  2. Has GWS changed your approach to your involvement (on or off campus) during college? If so, how?
Oh absolutely! I incorporate the language and ideas that we talk about in my classes into my daily life. As a preschool teacher I see first-hand some of the ways that societal norms affect education, and I work to teach my students to be kind and inclusive.
  3. How has GWS shaped your future plans?
I find myself becoming more passionate about being an inclusive teacher as I spend more time learning about the societal norms and representations that influence the lives of children and young people.
