  1. Why did you choose GWS?

When I first began college, I found a love for the social sciences and humanities. GWS & LGBTQ+ Studies acted as a critical and vital entrance to better understanding the world and my position in it. After taking a few courses in GWS, the investigative and collaborative nature of the classroom and materials incited my passion for the major.

  2. Has GWS changed your approach to your involvement (on or off campus) during college? If so, how?

Much of the course materials from my GWS major have solidified my commitment to mutual aid, political awareness, building community interdependence, and challenging systems of oppression. There is an immense lineage of women writers of color, queer & trans theorist, professors, and classmates to thank for the fruition of my personal/political consciousness.

  3. How has GWS shaped your future plans?

In my final year at UW, I am working on my senior thesis in GWS with gracious mentorship from Dr. Kate Phelps. This intensive project has provided me with a space to explore my appreciation for theory, research, and applying my education to the contemporary moment. As I look to my future, opportunities from GWS have given me an interest in pursuing graduate school and have fortified my desire to continue learning with, and from, queer, trans, and feminist writers.
