Staff Spotlight – Duachi Yang

Duachi Yang

Name: Duachi Yang

Pronouns: she/her

Hometown: Sheboygan, WI

Educational/professional background: I earned a BS in English, then an MS in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis with an emphasis in higher education administration. I joined the UW-Madison College of Engineering as a graduate coordinator for the Electrical and Computer Engineering department in 2019 where I found joy in working with faculty and staff to support graduate students. I also enjoyed chatting with graduate students and their passion and research goals is really inspiring. I’ve been at UW-Madison since my undergrad and am excited that I can continue to stay and grow as a professional!

How long have worked at GWS? I just started in January 2024!

What is your role in the department? I am the Graduate Program Manager.

What do you like about working in GWS? So far, everyone I’ve interacted with has been very welcoming and open to communication, which I value. I’m excited to interact more with everyone and learn more about the department.

What books are on your nightstand? I’m currently reading Heaven Official’s Blessing by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu. There are eight books and I’m currently on volume 2.

Do you have any media recommendations to share? I enjoy re-watching my favorite movies and TV series. I recently re-watched the Lord of the Ring trilogy extended version and re-watched a lot of my favorite Studio Ghibli films, such as Howl’s Moving Castle. There’s a new Studio Ghibli film that came out called, The Boy and the Heron. I heard that it was pretty good, so that’s on my watch list. If you’re into true crime, I like listening/watching Rotten Mango on Youtube. I really enjoy how Stephanie covers true crime events from various parts of the world and her storytelling is very captivating.

What are your hobbies or interests? I enjoy reading, playing video games, and crocheting (my kids always have requests on what to make for them). One of my personal goals is to be able to read in Japanese. I’ve been self-taught for several years and it’s been a fun journey.
