Biography
Yasmine Ansari is a PhD student in the Department of Gender and Women’s Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Their research broadly examines reproductive (in)justice in the Middle East, with a particular focus on modern Iran. Yasmine holds an MSc in International Relations of the Middle East from the University of Edinburgh and a BA in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies and International Studies from Seattle University. Their research interests includes feminist biopolitics, abolitionist and anti-colonial feminist theories, reproductive justice, and the histories and politics of reproduction in the modern Middle East. In their doctoral research, Yasmine seeks to develop an oral history of abortion in post-revolutionary Iran, investigating women’s experiences of unwanted or unplanned pregnancies as well as the effects of restrictive and punitive abortion policies on their health and lives.
