Biography

Jungyeon Lee is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Gender and Women’s Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, with an individualized concentration on Journalism and Mass Communication Studies. Their research interests include social movement, affect theory, media effect, online activism, neoliberal feminism, and anti-feminist rhetoric. Their current research question is how emotions and affect have been provoking or/and declining the recent feminist movement in South Korea throughout the decade, especially on social media.

Prior to coming to UW-Madison, Jungyeon received an MA in Women’s Studies and a BA with a double major in Philosophy and Television&Film at Ewha Womans University. Outside of academia, they taught gender-sensitive media literacy in elementary and high schools and provided consultation on gender impact assessment reports in South Korea.
