Biography

Edwin E Thomas is a doctoral student in Gender and Women’s Studies from India with an interdisciplinary concentration in health. His research interests broadly look at:

  • (re)conceptualizing women’s reproductive agency in India from a queer feminist lens as an outcome of structural and historical factors,
  • using quantitative social science approaches to explore the macro interactions between gendered systemic conditions, policy levers and health outcomes, and,
  • reorienting local public health systems to center reproductive agency.

He is advised by Prof Leigh Senderowicz. He is a trainee with the Center for Demography and Ecology (CDE) and the Center for Demography of Health and Aging (CDHA), and affiliated with the UW Collaborative for Reproductive Equity (CORE).

Prior to joining UW-Madison, Edwin has worked on reproductive, maternal and adolescent health outcomes, with a focus on family planning and gender equity measurement research in India, at the Newcomb Institute – Tulane University, the Center on Gender Equity and Health – UCSD, and the Population Foundation of India.
