Welcome, Professor Chris Barcelos!

I’m excited to join the faculty at UW Madison after a year as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Gender, Sexuality, and Feminist Studies at Oberlin College! I am a multidisciplinary feminist scholar and educator whose work combines feminist science studies, critical public health, and critical race theory to investigate the politics of health promotion aimed at people with nonnormative genders and sexualities.

My current research projects include an ethnographic manuscript on the racial politics of teen pregnancy prevention, an archival and interview-based examination of the politics of queer and transgender safer sex practices, and a narrative and statistical analysis of how trans people crowdfund transition related healthcare expenses.

I’m also a consultant with Think Again Training and a yoga teacher.
