Sara Matthiesen, Assistant Professor of both History and Gender and Women’s Studies at George Washington University. PhD in American Studies from Brown. “I research the changing relationship between inequality and reproductive life in the twentieth-century United States, sexual and reproductive health, gender and sexuality studies with an emphasis on race and class inequalities, and the intersections of medicine and law.” Her book Reproduction Reconceived (under contract with University of California Press) uncovers battles over the right to family making in the United States since the 1970s. Sara Matthiesen is one of the finalists in the “social causes and consequences” search of the Reproductive Equity cluster hire.
