The Department of Gender and Women’s Studies further affirms and celebrates our trans*, nonbinary and gender expansive community members. We will continue to work for the fullest presence of trans*, nonbinary and gender expansive lives; we view it as our job as public educators to actively protect and promote trans* access to public facilities, health care, housing, employment, and an education free of harassment and harm. We deplore the use of our learning environment for speech and actions that intentionally threaten and undermine trans*, nonbinary and gender expansive individuals and communities. We uphold the value of free speech and the open exchange of knowledge and perspectives, and we believe this can only be achieved when we simultaneously and actively ensure the well-being of all vulnerable members of our community. We welcome and invite ongoing input and conversation about ways we as a department can best support trans*, nonbinary and gender expansive individuals and communities in our classes, our university, and beyond.
